Charlotte Smith

Charlotte was admitted as a solicitor in 2006 and called to the Bar in 2009.

Charlotte began her career at Legal Aid Queensland, reaching the position of Deputy Public Defender before moving to the private bar in 2024.

Charlotte has extensive experience in complex criminal matters including homicides, drug matters and sexual offences. She regularly appears in the Queensland Court of Appeal. She has expertise in matters involving the Youth Justice Act and the Dangerous Prisoner (Sexual Offence) Act. She also has public law experience including inquests and judicial reviews.

She is a member of the Legal Aid Queensland complex case panel.

Charlotte is a member of the Bar Association’s Criminal Law Committee and Equal Opportunity and Diversity Committee. She is also a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Queensland Criminal Law Section Committee.

Charlotte regularly presents seminars for the Bar Association, Legal Aid Queensland and the Queensland Law Society.
